The official opposition NDP is calling for an end to PST being charged on construction labour.

Leader Carla Beck was joined by Highways and Infrastructure Critic Trent Wotherspoon on Thursday and say the PST on construction labour kills jobs and denies municipalities millions for infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life for the province’s residents.

Beck says, “This is a tax on jobs and investment. Saskatchewan should be booming, and this decision is a gut punch to the economy. It needs to be scrapped.”

Wotherspoon suggests taking a look at building permit numbers which he says are the worst in the nation and show the damage the tax has done.

The NDP says the PST on construction labour is driving up the cost of projects and in light of the province benefiting from record resource revenue the tax on construction labour needs to be axed.
