Seven weeks after starting on neighbourhood streets in Saskatoon, snow piles from the first half of the winter have been picked up from nearly every street for a total of 102,000 truckloads of snow.

The City of Saskatoon says in a news release that’s enough to fill the 18-storey Nutrien Tower at River Landing eight-and-a-half times, or to fill 2.16 million green carts. This was the biggest snow removal ever in Saskatoon.

City Administration will present a report about how it went for the first time the new Roadways Emergency Response Plan was enacted at a future Council meeting.

The City explains that despite the fact that spring officially begins in three weeks, removing the snow was important because of the amount that had accumulated, to prevent rutting and make space for more snow falls, to collect debris and sand and to reduce ponding during snow melt.
