Metis Nation-Saskatchewan says it is responding to the need for housing solutions by contributing $1.5 million to the NRIII Regional Housing Strategy and will construct eight new affordable and accessible housing units in Ile-a-la Crosse.
MN-S president Glen McCallum made the announcement yesterday during the opening day of the first of its kind homelessness conference.
McCallum says they hear from citizens in all regions of the province, north, central and south and this housing development is a step in the right direction but much more is needed.
Through the Village of Île-à-la Crosse, local work forces will take part in building six tiny homes and two three-bedroom houses beginning this spring. The project is due to be complete in 2024.
The development is a partnership with MN-S, Sakitawak Development Corporation, the Village of Ile-a-la-Crosse and Metis Local 21.
This is day two of the Building Community Saskatchewan Housing and Homelessness Conference in Saskatoon.
