The Minister of Natural Resources Canada believes Saskatchewan is in a good position as the world transitions to Net Zero by 2050. Jonathan Wilkinson says each province and territory has its own unique advantages in the green economy. He spoke today (Wed) at a luncheon hosted by both the Saskatoon and Saskatchewan Chambers of Commerce.

He notes that Saskatchewan is already a world leader in uranium and potash and now there is an increased need for these resources globally. Wilkinson says the agriculture sector will be important in feeding the world. He lists other opportunities including biofuels which have the opportunity to go up the value chain in the context of some agricultural products being produced, natural gas to produce hydrogen, and there are enormous reserves of critical minerals in the province. The Minister believes these minerals could become an economic driver for Saskatchewan and stresses that there is an abundance of opportunity in the province – it’s just a matter of seizing them.
