DNA testing allowed Saskatoon Police investigators to close the books on several break-ins dating all the way back to 2008.
A small amount of DNA was collected at the scene at a break-and-enter on the 200 block of Primrose Drive on July 26, 2008. A door was damaged and a cash registered pried open.
Two similar incidents occurred in 2012, one in 2014 and one in 2020. Several computers, electronic equipment and more than $3,000 was stolen. While small amounts of DNA were collected, a suspect could not be identified.
The final break-in happened on May 5, 2021 in the 500 block of Second Avenue North. About $11,000 of merchandise was stolen, but video evidence led to the arrest of a 56 year old man the following month.
The RCMP Forensic Lab was able to match the man’s DNA collected in the previous incidents. He is currently in jail for the 2021 robbery, but now faces another five break and enter charges.
