Three locations in Saskatchewan set new record overnight lows by Monday morning. La Ronge at -30.3 degrees Celsius beat their record of -30.0 set in 1974, Meadow Lake has a new record of -29.9 degrees which beats out the -29.4 recorded in 1965 and Last Mountain Bird Sanctuary got down to -26.7 degrees. The old record was -22.7 set in 2013.

Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says this cold spring is not letting up. She says the jet stream is well to the south of Saskatchewan so she can’t see a break from the cold air even up to 10 days away.

In fact, she says looking at the four-week forecast the trend is running below average. And the three-month forecast is a cooler than average spring but the advantage to that is a slow melt so farmers can get the benefit of the snowpack that we did get this year.

She says average highs for this time of year are plus-five for the day and minus-five for an overnight low.
