An arrest was made last week in a three-month long investigation into drug trafficking activities of a 41-year-old man.

From the information gathered, RCMP believe he was actively trafficking drugs into southern Saskatchewan from Alberta. He was located in the village of Hodgeville and last Thursday a search was executed at a home where he was arrested without incident.

RCMP say officers seized cash, 2.5 kg of meth, 1 kg of fentanyl, 0.5 kg of cocaine and between 40 and 50 small vials of cannabis resin. A home was also searched in the 100 block of Grey Street in Swift Current where 9 ounces of meth and a half an ounce of cocaine were seized.

Superintendent Glenn Church, Officer in Charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team, says, “A few grains of fentanyl can be enough to kill you – I hope the quantity we have seized in this investigation can help to paint a picture of the magnitude of the danger this drug leaves in our communities if it is untraced. This was a significant seizure which will greatly impact the supply of the lethal drugs originally destined for southwest Saskatchewan.”

The charges for Keenan Leith Ireland of Hodgeville are trafficking fentanyl, meth and cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. He made his first court appearance in Swift Current Provincial Court on Friday and the investigation is ongoing.

The investigation began in January and involved the RCMP’s Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team in Swift Current along with the Swift Current RCMP General Investigation Section.
