Farmers and ranchers technically do not pay carbon tax on fuel used on their operations—but  the April 1st increase impacts them just the same.

That’s because all businesses and services farmers use pay the carbon tax  and that cost is then passed on to the primary producer.

Ian Boxall from Tisdale is the President of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan.

Boxall says the carbon tax on rail freight for Saskatchewan grain producers will be $36 million, which is passed onto producers through the basis in their grain contract.
