It’s that time of year to get nominations in for the 2023 induction class to the University of Saskatchewan Athletic Wall of Fame.
There are three categories for the Athletic Wall of Fame – Athlete, Builder and Team with nominations needing to be in by May 1. The athlete and builder categories are for individuals who are at least five years removed from their time with Huskie Athletics. The successful team is to be from no later than 2013. The Athletic Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 9 in conjunction with Huskie Homecoming Weekend. The Athletic Wall of Fame is located in the P-A-C. Athletic Wall of Fame Nominations Now Open
SASKATOON, SK – The University of Saskatchewan Athletic Wall of Fame, located at the Physical Activity Complex, has begun the nomination process for the 2023 Athletic Wall of Fame inductees.
The Athletic Wall of Fame began in 1984 at the time of the university’s 75th anniversary, when seventy-five former athletes, builders, and teams were inducted from an athletic period that began in 1911. The Athletic Wall of Fame provides recognition to those outstanding individuals and teams, who have not only demonstrated excellence in their athletic endeavours, but also have brought distinction to the University of Saskatchewan.
There are three categories for the Athletic Wall of Fame: Athlete, Builder, and Team.
Athlete Criteria: The athlete must have attended the University of Saskatchewan and have graduated from the institution with a diploma or degree. The athlete must have represented the sport and the University of Saskatchewan with distinction in competition at the inter-university level, with the outstanding performance having extended over two years. Athletes are not to be nominated until a minimum of five years after their achievement and/or graduation.
Builder Criteria: A builder must have been an administrator, coach, manager, trainer, or other major contributor to University of Saskatchewan athletics during the period for which outstanding service is claimed. The Builder is to have meritoriously served sport for a minimum of ten, not necessarily consecutive, years. Builders eligible for induction are those individuals whose service concluded a minimum of five years prior to the submission of the nomination.
Team Criteria: A team must represent a University of Saskatchewan team sport (not have competed as individuals) having won a regional and/or national championship. Team’s eligible for induction are those whose accomplishments occurred a minimum of 10 years prior to the submission of the nomination forms.
The deadline to nominate in these three categories is Monday, May 1. Nomination forms are available online at www.huskies.usask.ca/honors/wall-of-fame. The Athletic Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 9 in conjunction with Huskie Homecoming Weekend.
