Amazingly, the Saskatoon Blades used the same script to win in Regina and continued an unlikely trend of the road team winning every game thus far in their series with the Pats as the Bridge City Bunch recorded a 4-3 overtime victory on Wednesday night.
Jake Chiasson (pictured) scored his first goal of the playoffs at 7:20 of the fourth period, lifting the Blue and Gold into a 2-2 tie in the best-of-seven W-H-L Eastern Conference quarter-final. The only difference from Tuesday’s 4-3 OT triumph was that the Blades opened the scoring for the first time in the series when Egor Sidorov scored a second period power play goal.
All of Regina’s scoring came in a span of 1:18 of playing time as Connor Bedard notched a man advantage goal at 19:35 of the second period to tie the score, Bedard put the Pats ahead 13 seconds into the third period and Tanner Howe made it 3-1 for Regina 53 seconds into the third frame. But, just like Tuesday, Saskatoon would rally from the 3-1 deficit on third period goals from Jayden Wiens and Charlie Wright, setting the stage for Chiasson’s overtime heroics.
Once again, the Bridge City Bunch dominated on the shot clock, out-shooting the Pats 24-14 from the end of the second period to the end of the game. The Blue and Gold will get a third chance to be the first home team to win a game in this series when they welcome Regina to SaskTel Centre on Friday. Game 6 is assured of being played Saturday at the Brandt Centre. Game time both nights is 7 o’clock with CJWW’s Pre-Game Show at 6:45. Following is the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L, the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast and Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with Saskatoon head coach Brennan Sonne…..
