The Way of the Cross will return to downtown Saskatoon for Good Friday.

Myron Rogal Roman Catholic Diocesan Coordinator of the Office of Justice and Peace say there is a large old, rugged cross that will be carried along the parade route.

There are 14 different stations along the route and a variety of languages being spoken. As the cross moves from one station to the next – the next group picks up the cross to carry it the next leg. At each station there is a scripture reading and at each of the stations there is a reflection. The reflection is chosen to represent a theme of the root of Good Friday and how it relates to what people are going through in our society today. Rogal says this year they actually had a waiting list of different groups to be presenters at stations along the parade route.

There is a focus on the social teachings of the church and social injustices in Saskatoon like environment, poverty, homelessness, women who are isolated are some of the topics being presented.

The parade starts at Court of King’s Bench goes to 20th up to 3rd Avenue to 25th Street making its way back towards the river and back down Spadina. The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until approximately 11:45 a.m.
