Almost one out of every three Saskatchewan residents are volunteers of some type. There are more than 330,000 volunteers across the province. Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross says that’s why the province is well known across Canada for its volunteer ethic. It’s National Volunteer Week, and Ross invites everyone to thank those who put in hours to make our lives better.
A news release from the province says a major source for volunteer opportunities is through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund, which provides more than 1,200 organizations and communities with direct funding, reaching about 12,000 beneficiary groups and an estimated 600,000 participants each year. The Government of Saskatchewan joins with Sask Sport, SaskCulture and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association thanking volunteers for what they do.
