More than 100,000 Canadians are living with Parkinson’s and that number continues to rise every day. That’s according to Parkinson Canada as it strives to educate everyone on this lifelong, incurable brain disease during Parkinson’s Awareness Month.
President and CEO of the organization, Dr. Karen Lee, says the reality for those with a Parkinson’s diagnosis is that many aspects of their lives will be disrupted, including relationships, work, sleep, activity and mental health. She adds that the disease is on the rise globally, and Canada has among the highest rates of prevalence.
The message during this month is that despite the challenges that can come with each stage of the journey, life with Parkinson’s is still possible. Parkinson Canada offers programs and advocates for those affected by the disease, raises awareness and funds Parkinson’s research.
