The provincial NDP says a leaked memo reveals that the provincial government is muzzling healthcare workers.
On February 7th, Opposition MLAs visited Lanigan as part of their province-wide tour on healthcare and consultation outreach. Ethics and Democracy Critic, Meara Conway, says while they were meeting with the Mayor and Council and healthcare workers offsite, a confidential memo from the Saskatchewan Health Authority was issued to employees at the Lanigan Hospital telling them not to answer any questions or provide information to Opposition MLAs.
Conway believes this raises serious questions about the provincial government’s credibility when it comes to healthcare. She notes that the Sask Party’s decision to centralize health regions hasn’t improved hospitals or made waits shorter, and says, “If anything, we’ve seen repeated attempts by this current government to politicize healthcare decision-making and silence healthcare workers from speaking out.”
