Canada’s Premiers gathered Monday in Toronto to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the country.
The provincial and territorial leaders also shared regional perspectives and identified ways to better address the needs of Canadians across the country.
The Premiers agreed on the need for immediate action in a number of areas including northern priorities and healthcare and infrastructure.
The leaders agreed that federal infrastructure funding should be flexible, respect provincial and territorial priorities and that the federal approval process needs to be accelerated.
In regards to northern priorities, the Premiers agreed that significant nation-building activities are needed in the three territories. That includes a strong and healthy investment in infrastructure that will improve the lives of those in the north.
The leaders have also reached out to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with an invite to co-host a meeting of the First Ministers early in the new year to work together on addressing regional concerns and pursue shared priorities.
