A man injured in a violent arrest by Prince Albert police earlier this month has died. Forty-year-old Boden Umpherville died early yesterday morning. He had been on life support since his April 1st arrest.
According to the initial news release from the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, Umpherville had been tasered, pepper sprayed and struck with collapsible batons.
Police say the car had been reported stolen—but the family said the registered owner was one of two passengers in the vehicle that Umpherville was driving.
A news release from the Justice and Attorney General’s office said the incident occurred on April 1st at approximately 2:23 a.m., in the 1100 block of 13th Street West in Prince Albert. The release also said a loaded handgun was seized at the scene as evidence and the registered owner was in the car. The incident is under investigation by SIRT which investigates where someone is injured or dies due to police actions or while in custody.
