The Saskatoon Police Service has charged a man with arson from the grass fire on Sunday in Diefenbaker Park which spread to the train tracks. Around 11:30 in the morning, officers responded to a fire in the 2600 block of St. Henry Avenue. A witness observed two males walking away. Police quickly located them, and one was taken into custody without incident. Officers say a bottle of liquor and a lighter was found on the 45-year-old man who was charged with arson. He is expected to make his first court appearance on June 6th.

The Saskatoon Fire Department reports responding to a grass fire south of Gordie Howe Bridge on the east side of the river. CN Rail was contacted to shut down the rail line just before noon on Sunday because of the fire and then it was re-opened just before 3:30. About 2 acres was burned and the fire spread to the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club property and into a pile of heavy timber.
