Norway House RCMP in Manitoba finally nabbed their man but after hypothermia set in.

On Friday afternoon around 1 pm Norway House RCMP were on patrol and spotted a 21-year-old man wanted on a warrant for Sexual Assault. When he saw police, he took off into the bush with officers in pursuit advising him he was under arrest. The suspect made it onto the ice of a nearby lake where fell through several times and lost his shoes in the process. Three officers put on floater suits and went onto the ice after him. One officer fell in but got out safely. RCMP say the suspect assaulted the officers, but they were able to get him off the ice and into custody which is when he went into medical distress due to hypothermia.

They got him into a makeshift shelter and covered him however the spot wasn’t accessible by vehicle, and it took assistance from EMS, local firefighters, and First Nation Safety Officers to get the suspect out of the bush on a stretcher. He was then taken to hospital, where he was treated and released to police custody. He remains in custody at this time.

In total, the officers tracked Dixon for approximately two and a half hours over a distance of approximately seven kilometres.   Clayton Dixon is now facing two additional charges of Assault Police Officer and Resist Arrest.
