A 37-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both from Saskatoon, face several charges following an early Friday morning incident in which the duo stole a vehicle, but couldn’t out-run the Saskatoon Police Service’s Air Support Unit (A-S-U).

At around 4:40 a.m. Friday morning, officers spotted what they believed to be a stolen vehicle and displaying an incorrect license plate traveling in front of them in the area of Rusholme Road and Avenue P North. The suspect vehicle took off at an excessively high rate of speed when the police vehicle activated its emergency equipment. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed, but that didn’t stop the suspect vehicle from continuing to drive, in an erratic fashion, until it came to a stop in the 200 block of Camponi Place.

The A-S-U then helped officers on the ground to quickly find and arrest the driver and passenger who had left the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The 37-year-old man and driver of the stolen vehicle has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle being pursued by police, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and failure to comply with several court-imposed conditions. Additional warrants were executed at the same time of arrest, including on against the 20-year-old female passenger.
