Pierceland RCMP responded around 9:40 in the evening on May 3rd after being told that human remains had been found near a home on the Big Island Lake Cree Territory. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is leading the investigation.
With the help of the North Battleford RCMP Forensic Identification Services, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, local Search and Rescue Teams, and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the remains were recovered. An RCMP Forensic Anthropologist has been brought in to help with identifying the remains. There will be a forensic autopsy at a later date. After a ground search, no other remains were found. Police have notified families of missing persons in the area of the discovery.
