An email to parents of students enrolled in the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools division states that because there isn’t enough provincial funding, difficult decisions will have to be made about programming and student supports.

Some of the steps to balance the budget include cutting teacher librarian positions, getting rid of Leveled Literacy Intervention, which is targeted literacy for vulnerable students, eliminating Extended Learning Opportunities programming for gifted learners, no more EcoJustice program, which is an outdoor learning class for Grade 8 students, eliminating the attendance care team, reducing full time kindergarten from ten schools to two and having fewer bus routes and longer ride times to reduce the number of required school buses.

The budget also includes increasing the elementary school lunch supervision fee for schools in Saskatoon to $100 per student per year, capped at $200 per family.
Right now, it’s $70 per student and $140 per family. As well, a high school lunch supervision fee of $25 per student per year will be added, and another budget item is increasing the rental rates for using the schools after hours.
