A man, who is believed to be one of five occupants of a residence in the 1300 block of Idylwyld Drive North that was ablaze Wednesday afternoon, wasn’t able to evacuate the structure and succumbed to the fire.

A 9-1-1 call alerted the Saskatoon Fire Department to the fire, but no other details aside from the location, was provided before the caller disconnected. The S-F-D arrived shortly after 1 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the attic of the one-and-a-half story structure. They also found the front door locked. One of four occupants who managed to escape the flames told fire crews of the possibility of another occupant still inside. An interior search found the man deceased on the upper level of the residence at 1:18 p.m. It’s not known why The fire was brought under control at 1:21 p.m. The scene was turned over to the Fire Investigator at 2:33 p.m. and the fire is under investigation.
