Following a long-term lease of lands adjacent to the Flying Dust First Nation, without the First Nation’s knowledge, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (F-S-I-N) is renewing its demand that the Province of Saskatchewan consult with First Nations before deciding to sell and lease Crown lands. When the Flying Dust First Nation asked provincial representatives why they were not notified about the long-term lease of the parcel of land adjacent to them last week, they were told the notice must have been lost in the mail. The previous lessee of this land was also not notified and is a citizen of a neighbouring First Nation with whom the Flying Dust First Nation has worked closely with. F-S-I-N Chief Bobby Cameron says, “This (selling and leasing of Crown lands without consultation) must not continue, and we will continue to fight it – because the province flagrantly disregards our inherent and Treaty rights to the lands, water and resources through these sales and leases.”
