The Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife federation feels future fisheries management in the province is in a crucial stage.
Darrell Crabbe hopes the government takes criticism from the Provincial Auditor General to heart and puts more money into the industry.
Judy Ferguson pointed out action plans outlined in 2010 that were supposed to be completed within five years, are four years behind schedule.
Her report also said the province was slow in completing risk assessments of its water bodies.
Crabbe says that’s not the fault of fisheries managers.
He says they are doing an excellent job with the money they’re given.
Crabbe says more money is needed to do another overdue upgrade at the 100-year-old Fort Qu’Applle Hatchery as well as work toward an innovative rearing pond model system expected to enhance the opportunities to stock fish in water south of the forest fringe.
