The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is inviting supporters to attend cross-examinations for Indigenous women who were coercively sterilized.  They will be in court Monday morning at 9 a.m. at Court of King’s Bench in Saskatoon.

A news release from the FSIN says Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice is an organization for Indigenous women who are survivors of coercive and forced sterilization. The organization is advocating for an amendment to the criminal code to state that sterilization of persons without their consent is a legacy of systemic discrimination, colonization and racism that disproportionately, but not exclusively, affects Indigenous and racialized persons.

FSIN Vice Chief Heather Bear says SC4RJ is a symbol of empowerment for First Nation women and their fight is to serve as a reminder that reproductive justice is an essential human right.
