The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an accident involving a police vehicle pursuit.

This past Saturday around 7:15 a.m. an officer with the Battleford’s RCMP attempted a traffic stop on a car on a grid road on the Moosomin First Nation.

The RCMP and SIRT say the officer activated their lights but the car didn’t stop. A news release from the Justice and Attorney General’s office says the officer then deactivated his lights and came to a stop. About a kilometre away the car left the road and rolled.

The officer called for assistance from EMS and STARS. The four people inside were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). SIRT’s mandate is to independently investigate incidents where an individual has died or suffered serious injury arising from the actions of on and off-duty police officers, or while in the custody of police, as well as allegations of sexual assault or interpersonal violence involving police.
