The provincial government says response teams remain focused on fire suppression before crude oil cleanup work can begin at the train derailment site south of Humboldt. The estimate for completely extinguishing the fire is late tonight or the early morning hours on Tuesday. One home has been evacuated, and there is no concern for public safety.
The Highways Ministry is monitoring the Highway 16 road closure and has posted detours between Guernsey and Plunket. There is a detour south of Plunket on Highway 365 toward Watrous and then north along Highway 668 to Guernsey.
The Environment Ministry is monitoring air quality and at this time there are no advisories. Environmental Protection Officers are monitoring the site and assessing the impact of the derailment and the crude oil spill.
Canadian Pacific hasn’t said how many cars derailed or how much crude has spilled, but does say there is no impact to waterways in the area, and the area will be cleaned up and restored. CP is investigating and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency has responded to the derailment. Guernsey is about 114 kilometers east of Saskatoon.
