There was an unexpected interruption while a School Safety Assessment was underway at Eastend School in southwest Saskatchewan.

Tuesday, Town of Eastend staff, Shaunavon RCMP and community volunteers were tracking risky behavior exhibited by motorists, pedestrians and cyclists in the school zone and it was during the afternoon assessment that an unbridled horse unexpectedly wandered onto the street forcing traffic to come to a halt in all directors. RCMP officers and volunteers capture and led the horse to safety and CAA says while unusual, it illustrates the importance of motorists being aware at all times.

Meanwhile, the May 30th Eastend assessment identified the top hazardous driving behaviors in the school zone as failing to yield or stop, speeding, and failing to signal to turn or to change lanes. The top risky pedestrian behaviours are jaywalking and failing to look both ways before crossing the street. The top risky cyclist behaviours are not wearing a bicycle helmet, not dismounting the bike to cross the street, and failing to look both ways.

The combined number of risky behaviours at Eastend School during the CAA School Zone Safety Assessment is 198.
