The area impacted by a special air quality statement due to wildfire smoke is considerably reduced Wednesday morning. It is in effect for Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, Big River, Battlefords, Unity, Maidstone and points north of those locations including Prince Albert National Park.

At 33 Saskatchewan now has the most fires seen burning in the province at any one time this year and nine of those are now out of control. There have been 220 wildfires so far this year and 146 is the five-year average.

Just when Alberta didn’t have enough to deal with in terms of wildfires, Drumheller RCMP are now looking for suspects connected to intentionally lit fires in ditches along Highway 9 at six different locations.

RCMP say Emergency Services successfully put out the wildfires and they are looking for a man wearing blue coveralls carrying a jerry can.

About 14-thousand people are still under evacuation order in Alberta, but there rain is in the forecast. There are 79 wildfires burning in Alberta and 28 are out of control.
