For the first time in what seems like a long time, there are no weather alerts and air quality statements from the wildfire smoke in Saskatchewan. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any wildfires, though. There are now 36 wildfires, which is the highest number reported so far this year in the daily numbers. Six are not contained, 18 are under ongoing assessment, for five of the fires the focus is on protecting nearby infrastructure like cabins and utility lines and seven are contained. So far this year there have been 224 wildfires, whereas the five-year average is 148.
