The goal of the Hope’s Home “There’s No Place Like Hope” capital campaign is to raise $8 million for a medically inclusive child care centre in Saskatoon, to provide care for children with complex medical needs.
The Saskatchewan non-profit has the only centres of its kind in Canada, with inclusive child care open right now in Regina, Prince Albert and Warman.
CEO and founder of Hope’s Home, Jacqueline Tisher, adds that they also have supported living homes in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert. Child care includes on-site nurses so that kids who require 24 hour can attend, so parents and caregivers can have a break, or go back to work or to school.
Renovations are underway at 217 Fairmont Drive, which used to be home to a bowling alley. It will feature two separate centres caring for 144 kids ages six weeks to six years old. The facilities have a multi-sensory room, a gym for physical therapy, a nursing station, and a commercial kitchen able to deal with specialized diets.
Earlier this week, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation donated $700,000 and supporters of JPCH, Bev and Duane Smith, rounded that up to $1 million with a $300,000 donation.
The province has also provided funding to support the licensed, medically-inclusive child care centre.
