Amnesty International Saskatoon will mark International Human Rights Day by supporting a youth-led campaign in Ontario.
Young people in Grassy Narrows continue to pressure the federal government to finish cleaning up the 10 tons of mercury dumped in nearby rivers by a pulp company beginning in the 1960’s.
Amnesty International officials say the effects are still being felt 50 years later and the government needs to follow through on promises to address the crisis including specialized health support.
The Saskatoon Chapter is joining the “Write for Rights” campaign for Grassy Narrows from 4-to-8 p.m. Tuesday at Augsutana Lutheran Church on Broadway Avenue.
