Greg Fertuck represented himself in Court of King’s Bench on Friday, charged in the death of his wife Sheree Fertuck. He called two witnesses back to the stand – a gun expert and his former girlfriend. The judge will announce his decision on the admission of evidence from a series of voire dires on September 22nd.
This trial began almost two years ago. In June of 2019 Greg Fertuck was charged with first degree murder and indignity to human remains in the death of his estranged wife, Sheree Fertuck, whose body has never been found. She was last seen in December of 2015 leaving her family’s farmyard east of Kenaston. Her truck, keys, coat and cell phone were later found at a local gravel pit.
The trial was originally to begin in March of 2021 but because of pandemic delays it began that September. Before the decision from the judge on whether certain evidence should be allowed was made, the Crown applied to re-open and submit new evidence. Following that, Fertuck fired his lawyers and wanted to represent himself. It has been seven-and-a-half years since 51-year-old Sheree Fertuck was reported missing.
