The province’s trade minister says it is a positive to get the USMCA deal get finalized, but there are still some questions when it comes to softwood lumber. Jeremy Harrison says it seems as if the Canadian government is putting the tariffs and duties on softwood lumber on the backburner. This is an important issue, especially for northern Saskatchewan and Harrison doesn’t believe it has been given the attention it deserves by the federal government. At the end of the day, Harrison says to resume what is a very beneficial trade relationship with the U-S is key, but the outstanding issues on softwood lumber and steel and aluminum need to be brought to a resolution.
