A James Smith Cree Nation man has been arrested after allegedly threatening residents with a machete.
At 10:45 a.m on Sunday, Melfort RCMP received a report of an armed man on James Smith Cree Nation.
Investigation determined the man was threatening people, including James Smith Cree Nation security officers, with a machete. Security initially responded and secured the area until police arrived.
Police say the man was located outside a house, and when told that he was under arrest, he assaulted one of the police officers. A taser was deployed and he was safety taken into custody.
As a result, fifty-one-year-old Clarke Anderson is facing 11 charges and was scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Monday.
Charges include:
– one count, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(2), Criminal Code;
– one count, assault on police officer, Section 270(2), Criminal Code;
– three counts, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
– five counts, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.
