Wednesday was a day filled with holiday cheer and good will at the Horizon School Division central office. Board of Education members and staff gathered to pack and wrap gifts that will be sent to students and families in need.
The Horizon Christmas Hamper Project is in its sixth year. Organizers collect donations to purchase gifts and distribute them across communities in the Horizon School Division. They buy things like local grocery store vouchers, touques, mitts and other items.
In the first year of the project which was 2014, gift baskets were provided for 97 children and 45 families. This year, Horizon will share gifts with approximately 403 children and 153 families.
The Horizon School Division operates 41 schools with the head office in Humboldt.
