The first year of cannabis legalization didn’t appear to be a busy one for police officers in Saskatoon.
A report reviewed by the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners on Thursday showed that there were 11 offenses under federal cannabis regulations and 187 under provincial laws.
Police Chief Troy Cooper says once edibles have been on the shelf for some time and once stores have built up a consistent inventory, they’ll be able to get a better picture of the impact of legalization in Canada. 41 impaired driving offenses involved drugs during the first year of legalization.
There were also no offenses of consuming cannabis at school from October 17th, 2018 to October 17th of this year in Saskatoon.
The board also estimates that training officers during the first year of legalization costed over $138 thousand dollars and an additional $115 thousand dollars the year before.
