Unifor is ramping up its efforts to get Co-op to remove what they call are “unfair” concessions off the negotiating table.
During a news conference in Regina Sunday morning, Unifor announced that they will be airing a national televised ad urging Canadians and Co-op members to take their business elsewhere until Co-op comes back with fair deal.
Unifor Local 594 members who work at the Co-op Refinery in Regina have been locked out since December 5th.
Scott Doherty Lead Negotiator and Executive Assistant to Unifor’s National President says in addition to the television ad that will air nationally during primetime, the union will also be installing billboards in Kelowna, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and other cities in western Canada with the same message.
“Greedy Co-op refinery makes $3 million dollars a day. Greedy FCL’s revenues last year were over $10 billion dollars. With record profits, it’s shameful that the company thinks it’s okay to attack workers’ pensions.” said Doherty.
The Co-op Refinery says it is offering 11.75% over four years, and offering the same pension as before or switching to a defined contribution pension which is similar to the best in the industry.
