The Meewasin Valley Authority team is mourning the loss of renowned Canadian architect 93-year-old Raymond Moriyama, who was the creator of the Meewasin Valley Project.
A news release from Meewasin states that Moriyama led a team to explore the natural and cultural resources of the river valley in the Saskatoon region in 1978.
It included the Meewasin Valley Project, a 100-year plan, which Meewasin still uses to this day.
Meewasin’s CEO Andrea Lafond explains that this region has one of the most publicly accessible riverfronts in North America with a corridor through the middle of the province’s largest city, supporting biodiversity, tourism and high quality experiences for those who live and visit the area.
She thanks Moriyama for what he did and his continuing support of Meewasin through the years and says, ” Raymond has left an incredible amenity for our region, he was undoubtedly resilient and truly a visionary leader who will be greatly missed.”
