The damage is estimated at $150,000 from a house fire early Tuesday morning in the 500 block of Avenue M North. The Saskatoon Fire Department responded at 6:09 in the morning and the first arriving crews reported heavy smoke. The fire had extended into the attic of the home. A news release from the Fire Department says the blaze was under control at 6:42 and was turned over to the Fire Investigator. The cause is accidental from an overheated motor on an electric fan in the basement.
There were no smoke alarms in the home. Someone living in the home smelled smoke and got out without injury. The Fire Department reminds everyone about the importance of working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, advising not to gamble with your safety.
