“Stay on Track”. That’s the message to hunters from the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association.
SSGA President, Garner Deobald explains that many areas of the province have been experiencing drought conditions, especially in the Southwest and West Central areas so the wildfire risk is higher than usual.
Hunters can help by sticking to the roads and trails.
Deobald says the majority of hunters are conscientious about minimizing their impact, but the two organizations just want to get the message across for hunters to remain vigilant because even small oversights could lead to disastrous outcomes.
Other ways to minimize the risk of fire include minimizing undue vehicle idling and bring a fire extinguisher in your vehicle.
When you open a gate make sure close it behind you, so you don’t let anything out, and secure landowner permission, which is the law.
