If you have ever been on one of Saskatoon’s major roads and wondered where the lane lines are because they have faded, the City says the areas where the lines are worn are scheduled to be painted again prior to the onset of freezing temperatures.
Traffic Operations and Control Manager, Cory Funk, says in an emailed statement that line painting crews paint about 800 kilometres of lane lines and 1,200 crosswalks, two to three times a year, depending on weather and durability.
The City’s website says a significant portion of line painting on priority streets is done at night to limit the impact.
A typical paint season, depending on the weather, runs from early April to September or October, allowing high traffic locations to be painted more than once a year.
Funk advises that when encountering a line, stay behind the pilot truck that follows the painting truck because the paint needs a few seconds to dry, and the operator of the truck has a limited field of view and may not see a vehicle or person in their blind spot.
