The City of Saskatoon has contracted KPMG to compile several non-property tax options to help pay for the proposed Downtown Event and Entertainment District.
Out of the five options that the accounting organization returned with, City Administration chose four that are worth further analysis.
Options include an Accommodations Tax which would be applied to hotel, motel, and hostel stays. The second option is a Facility Fee applied to event tickets.
This is already in practice at SaskTel Centre and TCU Place. Option three is Tax-Increment Financing. This is the collection of property tax revenue within a defined boundary in the area of redevelopment. The last option is to collect parking revenue from the new, city-owned parking structure.
None of these options have been approved by Council, and this analysis will be presented at the Governance and Priorities Committee Meeting on Wednesday.
