Women’s Soccer hit the field for the second time this weekend after their impressive 2-1 victory yesterday afternoon against Thompson Rivers WolfPack. This afternoon they took on UBC Okanagan Heat who come into today’s matchup with a 3-1-2 record while the Huskies are 4-and-1.
**********
The Heat got off to a fast start, registering 2 shots that were just wide, but at the 11 minute mark, Steganie Young buried the first goal of the game to give UBCO the early 1-0 lead. UBCO continued to apply the pressure by adding 2 more shots before the Huskies finally got their third shot ending a 10 minute drought. Although UBCO had more opportunities in the half, the Dogs started to find their rhythm towards the end of the half as they registered 4 shots in the finally 10 minutes were UBCO recorded none. Alyssa D’Agnone and Nammi Nguyen were the biggest threats offensively for the Huskies, registering 2 shots each combining for 4 out of their 7 first half shots.
The second half started off with the Huskies applying pressure right away with Alyssa D’Agnone firing one on net within the first minute, but UBCO responded right away with Stefanie Young finding the back of the net for the second time in the afternoon. Saskatchewan would quickly cut the lead in half thanks to Alyssa D’Agnone getting her third goal of the season. The Huskies would begin to apply the pressure once again, but Stefanie Young helped restore the Heat’s 2-goal lead with a hat-trick goal making the game 3-1 UBCO at the 62-minute mark.
The next 6 minutes remained quite until Alyssa D’Agnone caught a pass from Marie Klicher and rushed up field and drove him her second of the afternoon bringing Saskatchewan within one again. Not many shots followed for either team from that point on, but majority of the play was on the Heat’s side of the field with Saskatchewan controlling the play but struggling to get shots toward the net with only 2 shots being registered that was wide right and unfortunately running out of time.
