A Saskatoon man is facing five arson charges in connection to the Saskatoon Police investigation of a series of fires last week. Last Thursday morning around 2, emergency crews responded the 100 block of Stonebridge Boulevard and reported that multiple gas pumps and the canopy over the pumps were on fire. The Co-op Gas Bar is in that area.
Then, around 2:30 that morning, the Fire Department and police responded to a garbage can fire in the 100 block of Cope Crescent and 15 minutes later, there was a third call about a dumpster fire behind a hardware store in the 3000 block of Clarence Avenue South. A short time later, three more trash cans were set on fire in front of various stores in the same area in Stonebridge. A suspect was identified, who police believe is also responsible for a fire in the 1000 block of Clarence Avenue South in May.
A news release from the Police Service says last Saturday morning around 9:30, Patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 500 block of Main Street. It turned out to be the person police believe is connected to the arson incidents and he was taken into custody. The 33 year old also had various other warrants for his arrest. His next court appearance is October 10th.
