After searching for a new location for several months, Saskatoon SPCA staff are excited to announce that they have found a facility that meets all of their criteria.
Saskatoon SPCA Executive Director Fred Dyck says the new building is located at 2250 Hanselman Avenue in the north industrial area. He says when looking for a new building, he envisioned good drainage for easy clean-up, up to 10,000 square feet of space to house the animals, and existing office space for administration. He says all of that and more is possible at the new building, which will open its doors to visitors on January 2nd.
He adds that the new space will not only allow for an enhanced adoption service but will also provide space for additional services such as expanded behavioural training and hosting pet food banks. Dyck says he can see the SPCA staying in this new building permanently, with a few modifications that he and his team plan to take on.
Earlier this year, the Saskatoon SPCA lost the contract to continue being the city’s pound, therefore the organization was forced to leave their former spot-on Clarence Avenue. Taking over pound-keeping duties is the Saskatoon Animal Control Agency.
Dyck adds that moving locations will be a challenge, and they will be counting on the community’s generosity and donations as they always have. On Saturday from noon to 6:00pm, the SPCA will be hosting Puptoberfest, a fundraiser of food trucks, live entertainment, and local vendors.
