The City of Saskatoon says crews are putting the finishing touches on the Circle Drive North Bridge and restrictions should come off Tuesday.
The bridge has been under construction since the beginning of March and when it reopens fully to traffic by late afternoon Tuesday it will be three weeks ahead of schedule.
The bridge work was a proactive project to optimize the life of the bridge. It included asphalt and barrier replacements, drainage improvements, and concrete repairs to the bridge deck, piers and abutments.
There were also minor repairs to the pedestrian bridge that connects Pembina Place to G.D. Archibald Park. In a news release Todd Grabowski, Engineering Manager of Asset Preservation says the cost of the project was within the $10.5 million budget which is just slightly less than the $11.8 million it cost to build the 275 metre long bridge in 1983. Additional lanes and the pedestrian bridge were added in 2005 and 2007 respectively.
