A three-year-old boy was reported missing to Morden RCMP in south central Manitoba on Wednesday evening which led to officers and the local fire department responding to the RM of Stanley. The RCMP’s Search and Rescue team Police Service Dog Jolt were also called in to help alongside the RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems unit. Family had been searching for nearly two hours when police were contacted.
A news release from the Manitoba RCMP says the child had been playing with family and friends when they all decided to go into the tree line. The toddler went into a cornfield. A row-by-row search was conducted on the 210-acre cornfield by emergency crews and volunteers. Almost three-and-a-half hours after the RCMP were contacted, and five-and-a-half hours after he first went missing, a heat signature was located which turned out to be the three year old. He wasn’t physically injured.
Pembina Valley RCMP Area Commander Scott McAuley says, “It is a great day when we are able to hand a missing child back to their frantic parents and reunite a family. Thank you to everyone who assisted. Working together, you made a difference.
