Around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night Saskatoon Police received numerous reports from an apartment building in the Exhibition neighbourhood of a man, who may be armed, and was extremely agitated accompanied by a large dog. Police were told that he was making threats to harm and kill people. Prior to police arriving in the 2200 block of St. Henry Avenue the suspect fled on foot towards the riverbank.
Members of Patrol, Canine and the Tactical Support Unit responded, and a suspect was found trying to hide in a steep bank near the river. Police say he refused to comply with officers’ demands, and with the threat of unknown weapons present, a TSU member deployed a less-lethal use of force option. They believed, because he remained agitated and combative with police, that he was under the influence of an intoxicant. A knife was found on his person.
Saskatoon Police also believe the 36-year-old man is the same person who approached an individual at Saskatchewan Crescent and Victoria Avenue and threatened to shoot them. As well a number of other reports were made to police regarding a male in the area before a suspect was arrested. The 36-year-old man is charged with Uttering Death Threats, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
