The Saskatoon Blades are on a legitimate winning streak, three games-in-a-row, after corking the Oil Kings 7-0 Wednesday in Edmonton.
Austin Elliott made 26 saves for his first shutout of the season and third of his career. Among 11 stops in the first period for the 19-year-old was denying Oil Kings’ forward Rilan Kovacevic on a penalty shot. Elliott made 12 more saves in the third period to preserve the goose-egg. He received offensive support from several sources as seven different members of the Bridge City Bunch found the back of the net. Tanner Molendyk, Egor Sidorov and Trevor Wong (pictured) all had a goal and an assist. For team captain Wong, he was also in a fight, giving him a “Gordie Howe hat-trick.” Brandon Lisowsky, Vaughan Watterodt, Lukas Hansen and Easton Armstrong also scored for the 5-2-0 Blue and Gold. Armstrong deflected a Grayden Siepmann point shot for his first goal as a Blade in his first game. It was also Siepmann’s first game for Saskatoon as both were acquired Tuesday from Wenatchee and Calgary, respectively. Blue-liner Ben Saunderson chipped in a pair of helpers as the Bridge City Bunch handed 3-5-1 Edmonton their fourth straight loss, out-shooting them 44-26 in the process. The Blue and Gold will look to avenge a loss in Calgary two Sundays ago when they host the Hitmen Saturday at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre.
